You may have heard that The Well Outreach, Spring Hill’s local food pantry, will soon be moving to a new location! Shelly Sassen, Director of The Well Outreach, hosted a tour of the build-out-in-progress for our recent Facebook Live.
The Well is scheduled to begin serving the community from the new location, which is about 20 buildings down from their current location on Main Street, at the end of March.
“We have been praying and really seeking God’s will for several years trying to find a larger space,” said Sassen. “This is such a blessing.”
The square footage of the new space will allow The Well to serve more people at a time, which will reduce wait times for visitors. The pantry alone is bigger than The Well’s entire current space and will even accommodate groups of volunteers.
“We have requests often from groups such as scout troops or coworkers who would like to volunteer together to help us process,” said Sassen. “We don’t have enough room in our current space for groups to work. We are definitely excited about having this opportunity soon.”
The large pantry space will also allow The Well to bring their Jet Pack processing in house. The Jet Pack program provides food for insecure children in the community. The Well currently supports 18 schools. There are requests for other schools to be added to the program as well. Last year, The Well was able to give away 50,000 meals for students through the Jet Pack program.
Part of The Well’s mission is to offer community and compassion to everyone who walks through the doors. The sun-filled lobby will make guests feel welcome. Secondary welcome spaces will allow room for children to play while parents shop and for guests to visit with The Well’s staff and volunteers.
“People want to feel that they are seen and heard as much as anything,” Sassen said. “We want to have spaces where guests will feel comfortable sharing their stories with us.”
Several local businesses have helped to make the build out of The Well’s new space possible including John Maher Builders, A-Z Office Resources, Charlie Irwin Painting, Hometown Comfort, and Lowe’s of Spring Hill.
